The qualification has been created to develop those learners who are looking to choose, or already have chosen, a career in a business-related sector. It is envisaged that this programme will encourage both academic and professional development so that your learners move forward to realise not just their own potential but also that of organisations across a broad range of sectors. The rationale of the programme is to provide a career path for learners who wish to develop their core capabilities within the cyber security sector.

Module 2: Network Architecture, Communications and Protocols

  1. Communication and Network Principles and Protocols: The OSI Model
  2. How the Internet works
  3. Network Devices, Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN)
  4. Cyber defence frameworks
  5. Computer programming
  6. Conducting Risk Assessments

Module 3: Mobile Data Risks & IoT

  1. Protecting Mobile Data: Network Security on devices: Android (OS), Wi-Fi networks and security management
  2. The Internet of Things
  3. Malware
  4. Botnets
  5. Case studies in mobile data breaches
  6. Open Source Intelligence gathering and analysis (OSINT)

Module 4: Investigations & Incident Response

  1. Incident Response and CERTS
  2. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Management
  3. Investigations and Digital Forensics
  4. Reporting and recording activity
  5. Legal and ethical principles and cyber investigations

Module 5: Future-Proofing your Business

  1. Emerging Technologies: Robotics and AI
  2. NIST, ISO and COBIT
  3. Standards, policies, recruitment and industry training
  4. Staying ahead with Threat Intelligence
  5. Design your own cyber-risk assessment and business toolkit

Module 6: EU GDPR & Data Security

  1. What does EU GDPR cover? Underpinning ethos/objectives in relation to protecting personal data
  2. Reviewing and collating an organisation’s overall data properties
  3. Developing an EU GDPR implementation project plan
  4. Case studies in data insecurity
  5. Design your own EU GDPR audit toolkit

Entry Requirements

  • Qualifications at Level 2 and/or;
  • Work experience in a business environment and demonstrate ambition with clear career goals;
  • A Level 3 qualification in another discipline and who want to develop their careers in business management and/or risk management.
